What is ACTS:
ACTS is a free, twelve
week substance abuse program designed to equip each client with the tools
necessary to break the bonds of addiction.
The Purpose:
ACTS provides our
community with a proven, faith-based pathway to becoming free from our
addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. ACTS is a curriculum-based,
self-help recovery and educational program. It offers a holistic approach that
encompasses the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of an individual or
family.
Why is ACTS free to clients:
ACTS is supported
through private contributions, making it possible to offer the program free of
charge.
The Program:
Building a bridge
between the world and the church gives those with addictions an added tool to
use while in the fight to overcome their addictions by providing those hurting
people with an opportunity for spiritual growth. The
Alcohol Chemical Treatment Series
(ACTS) is a ministry that reaches out to the
community and offers this spiritual growth opportunity, following the example
set forth by Jesus to show compassion to those in need.
ACTS classes help substance abusers by addressing three key
areas: physical, emotional, and spiritual. First, ACTS classes help individuals
become aware of their physical addictions. Next, the course educates
participants on the physical and emotional problems that can result from this
addiction. Finally, the program encourages spiritual growth as a means of
helping individuals deal with the obstacles they face when working to overcome
alcohol and chemical abuse.
The ACTS. ministry is built around a series of classes that
constitute a court-approved substance abuse program. Most courts and
probation/parole programs require individuals with alcohol or drug-related
offences to attend a substance abuse program. By participating in the ACTS
program, individuals can meet their court-ordered requirements while also
benefiting spiritually. The program consists of 12 class hours, and participants
are awarded a certificate documenting their completion of the course. The ACTS
program works hand-in-hand with the judicial system by providing attendance
records to the appropriate authorities.

How the class is taught:
It's a curriculum-based
program that educates participants about drugs and alcohol is the staple of the
course. In each class meeting, participants are taught background information on
alcohol or a specific drug, a visual/object lesson application is given, and
then a brief historical story is given that reinforces the application.
The Results:
This combination
approach is designed to salt the individual's path, producing a thirst for a
drug/alcohol-free life. ACTS offers a way for individuals and families to
breakout of the cycles of physical, emotional, financial and legal problems
associated with alcohol and chemical abuses.
The program stresses the importance of the participant accepting
responsibility for a successful recovery and reinforces a positive character
development. One of its key elements is that it offers support and encouragement
from people who have been there and are now living a productive life.
